I couldn't let this day pass without expressing my profound shock over the damage seen in today's earthquake in Japan. The footage is devastating, and I feel sorry for the suffering it has documented. It is hard to come to terms with an event such as this one, even when intellectually we all accept that this is a risk that accrues to those of us who live on the Pacific Rim.
My deep sympathy to all who have suffered due to natural disasters, and in particular, to those suffering in Japan.
